Empowering homeowners to employ energy efficiency measures

British households are in the grip of an energy price emergency. Ofgem has confirmed that the regulatory price cap for electricity and natural gas, which rose to £1,971 on 1 April, will soar to an average of £2,800 a year per household in October. This will worsen the UK’s current cost-of-living crisis, which is already being felt by millions of households across the country. According to Ofgem, a staggering 12 million households could be in fuel poverty by autumn.

These ever-increasing energy bills are contributing to a wider cost of living crisis. Yet, while many homeowners are thinking about installing renewable technologies and other energy and cost-saving measures, they struggle to act.

In part, this is due to low levels of awareness about available home energy improvement solutions and their benefits. In cases where homeowners are aware of their options, they often have a poor grasp of the advice and financial support available. Others simply have low confidence in projected savings and, as such, are averse to making large investments in energy saving measures with little understanding of the benefits.

Cost of living crisis

The scale of the current cost of living crisis means we need to develop different approaches to help homeowners, especially those suffering from fuel poverty. Ensuring that the right improvements take place in the right properties is vital. As such, approaches need to be tailored to suit individual householders.

Industry needs to work together to educate homeowners and to dispel myths that improvements and upgrades are too costly or difficult to implement. This can be achieved through the HEERO app, which offers personalised energy recommendations with up to 95% accuracy.

The app, which is available through white label technology to lenders and installers, is designed to streamline the user experience and guide homeowners through the entire energy retrofit journey. By using the technology, these service providers can offer their customers personalised home energy insights and recommendations, as well as valuable information on the financing and installation of energy-saving home improvements.

The benefit of using an independent energy platform is that it allows these businesses to deliver agnostic, bespoke property information to guide their customers. For example, lenders can use the platform to present homeowners with personalised and targeted finance offers, while installers can use it to highlight specific measures based on their ability to improve the thermal efficiency of the property and to generate energy/heat from renewable sources, as well as to show the cost of installation and energy bills savings associated with the suggested measures. Furthermore, the app can be used to recommend installers based on customer feedback, estimated cost of work, and proximity to the householder.

Using technology to drive change

Technology is the answer to tailor support more efficiently, to streamline the user experience, and to guide homeowners through the entire energy retrofit journey. It can help address challenges such as the disruption caused by invasive energy efficiency measures, confusion over financing and government funding, and lack of flexibility and choice over technology, installers, and manufacturers.

It can also help identify the improvements that are most effective, and can be used to equip homeowners with the knowledge and tools to make decisions that will positively impact their cost of living.

HEERO Technologies offers a seamless customer journey from insight to installation, removing complexity and providing trusted support.  To learn more the benefits of using our white-label technology, get in touch.
