Context

Heero Technologies is a recently established start-up company developing energy efficiency technology. The company was established in December 2021, and has 5 staff working remotely across the UK. To achieve net zero by 2045, these are the following steps Heero Technologies will take to minimize carbon emissions and mitigate environmental impact.

Responsibility

The CEO, Nicola Kennedy is responsible for the implementation of the net zero plan and the board will monitor progress against this plan on an annual basis.

The net zero plan is available publicly at heerotechnologies.com/net-zero and has been prepared using Greenhouse Gas Protocol Standards, available at: ghgprotocol.org

Year 1: 2023

Carbon Footprint, Baseline Calculation

Heero Technologies carbon footprint for 2023 is below. This includes Scope 1, 2 and 3 calculations and will be utilised as baseline measurement to track progress and set reduction targets.

Year 2: 2024

To reduce our carbon emissions in 2024, Heero Technologies will aim to reduce Scope 2 and Scope 3 targets by 10%, through the following actions. These will be adjusted as necessary based on headcount. It is expected that the primary reductions will come from reducing travel by air, increasing the number of remote meetings and reducing in person meetings/company outgoings to third parties.

1.     Energy Efficiency:

·       Encourage remote workers to use energy-efficient devices and appliances by providing guidelines and recommendations.

·       Consider providing incentives for employees to upgrade to energy-efficient equipment, such as laptops, monitors, and routers.

·       Advocate for the use of energy-saving settings on devices and encourage employees to turn off equipment when not in use.

2.     Renewable Energy:

·       Opt for renewable energy sources for powering our business operations. This will primarily be focussed on enabling all staff to switch to renewable energy tariffs in the home and encouraging installation of renewable technologies and energy efficiency measures where feasible.

·       Ensure our web hosting providers and cloud services prioritize renewable energy sources for their data centres.

3.     Remote Work Policies:

·       Continue to promote and enforce remote work as a core part of your business model to reduce the need for office space and commute-related emissions.

·       Encourage virtual meetings and minimize business travel whenever possible by leveraging video conferencing and collaboration tools.

·       Provide resources and support for employees to set up sustainable home offices, including ergonomic furniture and energy-efficient lighting.

Year: 2025 - 2029

To reduce our carbon emissions between 2025-2029, Heero Technologies will work towards the following targets. These will be reviewed annually by the board to ensure their appropriateness and continued alignment with the business. Where opportunities exist to refine, improve or stretch these targets they will be taken and the objectives amended as appropriate.

1.     Carbon Offsetting:

·       Offset unavoidable emissions by investing in certified carbon offset projects that align with our company's values and support sustainable development initiatives, particularly focussed on energy efficiency and renewable technology in the home

·       Communicate transparently through annual reporting and our website with employees and stakeholders about your offsetting efforts.

2.     Supply Chain Sustainability:

·       Collaborate with suppliers and vendors who prioritize sustainable practices and offer eco-friendly products and services.

·       Consider the environmental impact of your software development process and aim to minimize resource consumption and waste generation throughout the product lifecycle.

3.     Employee Engagement and Education:

·       Foster a culture of sustainability within your company by involving employees in decision-making processes and encouraging them to contribute ideas for reducing carbon emissions.

·       Offer training and educational resources to raise awareness about sustainability issues and empower employees to adopt eco-friendly behaviours both in the workplace and at home.

4.     Continuous Monitoring and Improvement:

·       Implement a system for regularly monitoring and reporting on your progress towards achieving net zero emissions.

·       Use feedback from employees, stakeholders, and environmental experts to identify areas for improvement and refine your net zero plan over time.

Year: 2030 - 2045

1.     Supply Chain Sustainability

·       Monitor the ongoing impact our suppliers and vendors policies, include these in decision-making and report on these annually through our website and reporting
